Certificate backup

Avoid problems during installation and normal operation.
We've prepared detailed procedures for backing up your private key and certificate on the most commonly used operating systems.

Backup certificate on OSX

All types of certificates offered by I.CA are made up of several parts:

  • private key (also private key, or data for creating an electronic signature),
  • public key (also data for electronic signature verification), usually part of the certificate,
  • the certificate itself.

When an electronic certificate request is created, a key pair is created - the private key and the public key. We recommend that you create a backup of this private key so that there are no problems with its installation and use after the issuance of the corresponding certificate. (The private key can only be backed up (exported) if it has been marked as exportable)

Once the certificate has been issued, all parts of the certificate (private key, public key certificate) are already available. If you are using only a PC, we recommend that you create a backup of the certificate with the relevant keys. This backup is used for disaster recovery purposes or for transfer to another device.

If you are using a hardware solution such as a smart card or USB token, the private key is located on this media and therefore the private key cannot be exported.
