Transfer a certificate between different versions of Windows OS
The first step is to export the certificate with the private key. The export can be done by following the instructions here: I.CA | Backup certificate (ica.cz). The export will give you a PFX file that you can transfer to the desktop of the other computer.
In case of different Windows OS versions, it is recommended to convert the PFX file using our I.CA PFXTool application, which can be downloaded here: I.CA | Downloadable applications (ica.cz).
The application is not runnable, so it will be sufficient to open the startup .exe file in the downloaded file. In the window that opens, click on "BROWSE" and then locate the desktop or other folder where the downloaded backup is stored. Then select the backup and confirm with the "Open" button. You can also just drag the backup into the window.

In the next step, you need to fill in the password for the certificate backup that was filled in when you exported the certificate.

Here you do not need to change anything and click on "Change provider". A second window will open where you can select where to save and name the converted file. After confirming "Save" you will see a confirmation of the transfer.

Start the certificate installation by opening the converted backup. This will open the import wizard, where you leave the storage at the default settings and proceed further.

The next step does not need to change anything, so you will continue on.

In this step, you need to fill in the password that was entered when exporting the certificate, and you can optionally add another import option such as the ability to re-export the certificate key from this computer.

There is no need to change anything here, so you continue to the next step.

In the last step, you will complete the import process and you will see a confirmation of successful import. Once the process is complete, you will be able to start using the certificate.
