New Adobe Acrobat Reader may incorrectly evaluate qualified electronic signatures
The newer version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 26.001.21662 has brought several significant changes that are important for users who use this application for electronic signing.
Verified electronic signature
In the designation "qualified electronic signature" may be designated as "verified electronic signature" in the Czech interface. This term is not known in Czech or European legislation and may mislead users.
Incorrect presentation of a valid qualified signature
Change in the information displayed when verifying electronic signatures and seals, depending on the verification method. Adobe Reader may in certain cases use only the trusted list of Adobe AATL certificates, in which I.CA is included, and not take into account the European trusted lists EUTL. The application may then present a valid qualified electronic signature only as a guaranteed electronic signature, although its actual legal status does not change.
Therefore, we recommend that users pay attention to the information about the source of trust and the date of the last update of the European lists. If in doubt, it is advisable to verify the result in another tool or through the current European trust lists. Manual changes to certificate trust in Reader should only be performed by experienced users.
Correction of incorrect labeling of qualified seals
Fixed incorrect labeling of qualified electronic seals, which the application previously referred to as "qualified electronic stamps".
Adobe has been notified of the described issues and is expected to fix them in a future version of the application.
